No Way Home For The Suicide Squad

People are freaking out about the trailer for the second third Spider-Man like it’s the second coming of The Snyder Cut. I’m not enthused by No Way Home, but I’ll write about it since that’s what the rabid public wants. By the time I publish this they’ll have moved on to something else. (I’ll be chagrined if it still gets more views than the Superman & Lois season one wrap-up.) Unlike reputable news outlets, punctuality is our #1 dream. That’s okay because I really wanted to talk more about The Suicide Squad. The new memes I’ve made since will surely be stale now too. SPOILERS for that underperforming movie leaving HBO Max soon & a trailer that you’ve probably had shoved in your face even if tried dodging it below! At least this one’s short.

‘Cause We Are Living In A Post-Crisis World …

The CW’s DC Comics shows used to be unofficially Pre-Crisis. Then Crisis On Infinite Earths changed everything. Now the Beeboverse has irrevocably became a Post-Crisis world. This is much nerdier than prime time network TV used to be! Well, one network is nerdy at least. CW scheduling as been erratic since. I finally decided to publish my Post-Crisis impressions now rather than wait for them to get on relatively the same page. So here’s the tardiest (Green) Arrow series finale review plus miscellaneous SPOILERS for the other Beeboverse series. We also have more to say about Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey & The Batman.

Is Harley Quinn’s Movie A BOP?

Birds Of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn is an even longer title than The Dolorous Adventure Of Brother Banenose. No one is going to refer to it by its full name. I finally went to the trouble of copying & pasting it for this critique though. I wanted to get this out the week after my CAOS Part 3 overview but the title was so sesquipedalian it threw off my schedule!

Thanks to the end of Crisis On Infinite Earths, this film can canonically exist. Though is it even worth it if they don’t sing of superhero dicks? Now here’s the latest The Wages of Cinema collaboreview with the answer! Before, after, or during your listen, scroll down for the non-transcript wherein I over analyze wardrobe & comic book deviations. There may be some SPOILERS, puddin’!

Crisis On Infinite Earths: Multiverse of Madness!

The final installments of Pre-Crisis TV have aired. The crossover even that’s been foreshadowed ever since The Flash’s series premiere is finally here! Not even the DCAU attempted a direct Crisis On Infinite Earths adaptation! I have some concerns over how they’ll pull off the whole shebang in just five episodes (if you don’t count all the prior build-up), especially with Marc Guggenheim is overseeing it. It’s at a disadvantage of not being able to include characters from every DC adaptation ever made. I’m gonna watch it anyway!

This crossover is instantly better than last year’s for including the Feet of the Future Leg-Ends of Tomorrow! It also contains more Elseworlds. Wasn’t it established The CW’s multiverse only has fifty-three alternate universes? Why are these Earth #’s so high? Granted Crisis On Fifty-Three Earths doesn’t sound as thrilling. Maybe the real Crisis On Infinite Earths is needing to save Lodge 49? (Which Earths has it not been cancelled on?) It’s a SPOILER that nothing below will make a lick of sense if you’re not up on your CW DC, although that may make it more entertaining.

Will Kara lock down Lena or let Kate have a shot at Ms. Luthor?

Batwoman Begins As Supergirl, Black Lightning, & The Flash Return!

Now that Preacher gave its last sermon, it’s time for the return of shows that admit to being based on DC Comics! I chose writing about these over watching Joker! Will no one think of the Joker? (Thanks to The Wages Of Cinema for taking that cinematic bullet for me.) SPOILERS for the newest season premieres of Batwoman, Supergirl, Black Lightning, & The Flash below! They’re all different numbers, but at least they coordinated them for the same week this year unlike the Emerald Archer & the Temporal Justice League! (I finally read The Collector so I can join the Time Bureau book club.) There’s a lot of Batwoman to cover since it’s the rookie. Apparently nothing noteworthy happened at NYCC, but I’ll pepper in some tidbits about Crisis On Infinite Earths!

~

Batwoman is the new CW series starring Kate Kane, not to be confused with The CW’s new comic book adaption Katy Keene. She’s an update of the original Batwoman, Kathy Kane, who is officially a separate character. Kate Kane should also not be confused with Cass Cain a.k.a. Batgirl, who’ll be debuting in Birds of Prey & Harley Quinn’s Extended Title. (That movie is probably keeping Renee Montoya embargoed.) Kate is the only member of the Bat-family to have had a bat mitzvah.

Birds Of Prey V. The Suicide Squad: Dawn Of Posters

WB released some tidbits about Birds Of Prey & The Suicide Squad. I’ll get to them, but this is merely an excuse to write about various DC Comics things in the backlog! I know you’re only coming here for my Gotham cold takes anyway.

Got Gotham Gab?

This is one of those relaxing weeks before the new TV season starts up. So I’m going to regale you with some random Batman musings that didn’t fit elsewhere. I repeat “Gotham” a lot even though it won’t return for its swan song until next year like Game of Thrones. (Get a jump on those mash-up videos now, YouTuberrs!) There’s also a bit about that Joker movie that is still happening for some reason & the Doom Patrol show that might be good. This may be a good opportunity to read my Preacher season three review if you prefer a tighter theme. Everybody loves Batman, however, so this is a must read post! After all, utility belts are just organized fanny packs. Pay no mind to whatever Captain Marvel news is happening!
