No Way Home For The Suicide Squad

People are freaking out about the trailer for the second third Spider-Man like it’s the second coming of The Snyder Cut. I’m not enthused by No Way Home, but I’ll write about it since that’s what the rabid public wants. By the time I publish this they’ll have moved on to something else. (I’ll be chagrined if it still gets more views than the Superman & Lois season one wrap-up.) Unlike reputable news outlets, punctuality is our #1 dream. That’s okay because I really wanted to talk more about The Suicide Squad. The new memes I’ve made since will surely be stale now too. SPOILERS for that underperforming movie leaving HBO Max soon & a trailer that you’ve probably had shoved in your face even if tried dodging it below! At least this one’s short.

Does Superman & Lois Hammer The Beeboverse Into Shape?

As I promised, I survived seeing  The Suicide Squad a second time on HBO Max. (Where can I see a clean version of the new poster with Task Force X taking a group nap?) It’s still a grisly good time!

Now it’s time for the first season finale review of Superman & Lois, which aired on Lois lane’s birthday. How dare they preempt it again for baseball! The damn Yankees are history’s greatest criminals for preventing me from publishing this post promptly! This has SPOILERS for the episodes I’ve not blogged about since the second. (Eventually I’ll blog about the rest of Supergirl season six too.)

The Suicide Squad Is To Die For!

I’m back with the SPOILER Squad otherwise known as The Wages Of Cinema to take on The Suicide Squad! (Thanks to its earlier UK release, I had to dodge spoilers for a week so I didn’t accidentally discover whether King Shark is a shark.) Warner Brothers wanted Suicide Squad to be its Guardians Of The Galaxy. (It wasn’t.) So for the sequel, they got James Gunn to write & direct. That’s a huge upgrade from David Ayer. (I’m curious how the version co-written by Todd Stashwick would’ve compared.) It’s also much wiser to get a Marvel writer-director in on the ground floor than bringing one in mid-stream as a replacement. TSS follows Wolverine’s lead by adding “The” to the title rather than a number or creative subtitle. Much like TMNT:OOTS, you’re not required to have seen the first installment to enjoy the sequel. This one’s already got a leg up in containing no Jared Leto Joker!

Justice League Snyder Cut Discourse Is Served!

Welcome to my sixth blogiversary! I had three different blogs in progress (DuckTales series finale, The Flash’s “season Finale,” Justice League Snyder cut) for the stacked events of this anniversary week. I let the people vote, & they chose violence the Snyder cut by a huge margin. Nobody voted for the poor F-Lash, which may explain when last year’s anniversary blog performed poorly despite an adorable Grodd pic. (Aren’t they all?) Keep your eyes peeled for the two losing blogs sometime in the near future.

Black Widow is the opposite of the Snyder cut in the sense that it existed before the pandemic yet its studio doesn’t want you to watch it at home post-pandemic. (If a movie needed $70 million extra dollars for special effects & reshoots, it did not exist in a finished state before.) The Snyder cut of Justice League is being reviewed … elsewhere! Sorry! I still want clickbait visits, just not enough to subscribe to HBOMax. I can’t even afford to review the official tie-in meal kit that sounds like an expensive prank. I have no journalistic integrity! For actual critical analysis, refer to my blogs on Superman & Lois, The Flash, & WandaVision. Here are SPOILERS for a movie I’ve yet to see, so all my spoilers could be wrong? This could be a fun comparison game for you to play at home. So you’re not already sick of this discourse, this blog’s for you!

Is Harley Quinn’s Movie A BOP?

Birds Of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn is an even longer title than The Dolorous Adventure Of Brother Banenose. No one is going to refer to it by its full name. I finally went to the trouble of copying & pasting it for this critique though. I wanted to get this out the week after my CAOS Part 3 overview but the title was so sesquipedalian it threw off my schedule!

Thanks to the end of Crisis On Infinite Earths, this film can canonically exist. Though is it even worth it if they don’t sing of superhero dicks? Now here’s the latest The Wages of Cinema collaboreview with the answer! Before, after, or during your listen, scroll down for the non-transcript wherein I over analyze wardrobe & comic book deviations. There may be some SPOILERS, puddin’!

Birds Of Prey V. The Suicide Squad: Dawn Of Posters

WB released some tidbits about Birds Of Prey & The Suicide Squad. I’ll get to them, but this is merely an excuse to write about various DC Comics things in the backlog! I know you’re only coming here for my Gotham cold takes anyway.

Riverdale Makes Less Sense Than The Flash?

Now that Agents of SHIELD has returned (“Synergy SNAFU Stymies SHIELD’s Sixth Season!” is the headline I should’ve used) to ABC, the CW’s comic book series are departing! I’m splitting up the SPOILERY season finale reviews this year! First up are The Flash & Riverdale! I haven’t truly blogged about the latter since its season premiere, so there’s plenty to cover & it still won’t make a lick o’ sense!

Got Gotham Gab?

This is one of those relaxing weeks before the new TV season starts up. So I’m going to regale you with some random Batman musings that didn’t fit elsewhere. I repeat “Gotham” a lot even though it won’t return for its swan song until next year like Game of Thrones. (Get a jump on those mash-up videos now, YouTuberrs!) There’s also a bit about that Joker movie that is still happening for some reason & the Doom Patrol show that might be good. This may be a good opportunity to read my Preacher season three review if you prefer a tighter theme. Everybody loves Batman, however, so this is a must read post! After all, utility belts are just organized fanny packs. Pay no mind to whatever Captain Marvel news is happening!

My Cat Is A Dragon

We’ve tempurrarily temporarily run out of current TV & movies to draw in readers. In the meantime, we’re switching back to the old standbys of cats & books! Then we’re going off topic again! This one’s pretty short!

My cat caught her sixteenth mouse! She also has a vintage Kool penguin ash tray full of catnip she refuses to smoke.

The Joker’s On You!

If you’re reading this, congratulations on surviving the total Eclipso of the heart! The big news that dropped just as I was reviewing  The Defenders is that WB will be making stand alone Elseworlds movies separate from the DCEU (this is still a yucky name). These could be really interesting palate cleansers for folks that are bored with the current film continuity & tradtional superhero movies in general. The first one up is … a gritty The Joker origin movie set in 1980’s Gotham City? So this will still have nothing to do with anything fans like about the Joker? So far it’s just produced by Martin Scorsese not directed by him, so don’t get your hopes up.
